After School Activities
Dallas County R-I Schools are lucky to be recipients of a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant that funds after school programming within the district.  Elementary school after school programming is coordinated by the Dallas County Area YMCA.  For more information on elementary after school programs, contact the YMCA at 345-1116.  For more information on middle school and high school after school programming contact the school district after school coordinator at 773-2841.  Offices for both programs are located at the YMCA building located at 932 Main Street in Buffalo, next to the First Baptist Church building.

Grant funded after school programming is available each night from school dismissal until 6:15 p.m. at all school campuses.  Free transportation is provided to children who live outside the city limits of Buffalo.

Dallas County 21st Century Schools- After School Programs for 2012-2013
 
Dallas County 21st Century Schools is now on our forth year. We have a vast amount of programing for students as well as adults. The program is funded by the 21st century grant the school district was awarded 4 years ago. The Dallas County 21st Century schools is comprised of the Dallas County R1 Schools and 4 partners, including YMCA, 4H, Health Department, and Police Department. The programs provide safe fun and educational activities for students after school until 6pm. We also have an activity bus that will take students, who do not live in Buffalo, close to home. Below is a list of all current programs. The program also offers some activities beyond 6pm, for adults and students. Please join us sometime in our activities.

Long Lane Elementary-
Science Club, Mondays- Hands On science with a focus on science fun!
Primetime Monday- Friday- Fun and educational daily after school childcare for elementary school students.
 
Mallory Elementary-
Science Club - Hands On science with a focus on science fun!
Basketball Camp (Coming Soon Late September to Early December) - 2nd-6th Grade basketball camp will be starting in October. The students will be learning the FUNdamentals of basketball. 
Archery (Coming Soon)- 4th grade students will learn the basic knowledge of shooting a bow safely, and accurately, in order to compete in tournaments.
Open library Wednesday and Friday- The library media center will be open after school to allow all the opportunity to utilize the resources available.
Primetime Monday- Friday- Fun and educational daily after school childcare for elementary school students.
 
 
Buffalo Prairie Middle School-
Piano- (Monday)Learn to play the piano at your own pace. Everything is provided. (Class is currently full; we are putting students on a waiting list)
Robotics- (Tuesday)Building our future through robotics and technology.
Read, Write, Think- (Tuesday) Read, Write, Think is a class that revolves around different types of reading, writing and thinking. 
Homemade Science (Wednesday)- Fun and easy science experiments including: making curdled milk, how to make clean water, how to clean pennies and more.
Craft Junkies- (Wednesday)Attention all Buffalo Prairie Student craft lovers, if you like taking simple materials and turning them into awesome masterpieces, craft junkies is for you.
Treasure Hunters- (Thursday) We will be seeking treasures throughout Dallas County.
South Pacific Internet Cruise- (Thursday) Using a simulated cruise ship, this fun-filled class will incorporate technology as students participate in onboard activities as well as shore excursion activities associated with real-life South Pacific cruises.
Police Detectives- First Friday of each month- The Buffalo Police Department teaches students investigation techniques.
Spice Up the Halls (one Monday a month) - “Let’s decorate the school with fun positive banners and signs! In this class, we will create banners and signs about the character word of the month and/or holiday themes.”
Academic Bowl- (TBA)7/8 Students will train and participate in intensive course work from all subjects, including arts, current events, sports, and all academic subject areas. The ultimate goal is to increase your knowledge and application skills to become competitive in interscholastic academic bowl team meets.
Archery (Coming Soon) - This class is for middle school students and will focus on setting goals in archery and academics. It will help students identify and carry out the steps needed to improve in these areas.

Buffalo High School
Computer Programming - Code Like and Expert. Learn to write Website Applications using HTML, CSS, and Javascript
Cribbage- Students will learn the math and strategies involved in playing a very old card game called Cribbage.
Strategy Games (Thursdays)- Students will be introduced to strategy board games that challenge them to use problem solving, logic, and creativity to accomplish goals. Many games include historical and geographic themes, while others teach team work and cooperation.
Open Library Monday- Friday - The library media center is open for all to use the resources for fun or online courses from 3:15 – 6:30.   Open for both students and parents.
 
Adult Programs-
Computer Programming - (Thursdays) Code like an Expert. Learn to write Website Applications using HTML, CSS, and Javascript
Welding (TBA) – Learn basic to advance welding techniques at Dallas County Technical Center.
Certified Nursing Assistant (TBA)- The class prepares adults for the certified nursing assistant certification. The class is free but participants must provide some of there own equipment.
